My husband and I ordered these light to place along the 30' rail of our deck. The description said the string was "Light Length: 29.5ft" but what we overlooked was that the "Lead Cable: 16.4ft" only left about 14 feet of lights.We too are disappointed with the fact that the timer function must be enabled to hold the programmed light mode during a power off condition. We live in Alaska and in Dec we have 18 hours of dark, 6 hours of these lights just doesn't cut it.I bought four of these, two for me and two for my parents. Consequently, I got a good bit of experience in untangling them right out of the box. The trick seems to be that there are basically two ends of twisted icicles, with the middle being the main core of the wire. The best I did was to sit down and unfold the two ends across my legs, with the middle (having the tie wire) handing between my legs. Then, the two ends of icicles are twisted all the way to the end, which you can see if you look closely. My next step was to twist them against the way they are already twisted, first one end, then the other. Then, I worked the middle part from the plug end, working the icicles free as I went. There are times when I needed to do more untwisting of the group icicles, and times when I just had to shake the whole thing to try to free it up a bit. It takes patience, and individual icicles often need to be worked free one by one as you go along. To store these for next year, I think that I will just try to make large loops and hang them like extension cords on a wall. There will inevitably been some entangling of the icicles, but it should be minimal. Good luck. The lights themselves look very nice, with good color. I would prefer that there was just a twinkle mode, without the flash, but it is what it is. (I had pure blue LED icicles previously, but decided that I wanted more color this year as it has been much too glum and Christmas should be a somewhat gaudy, in your face, brash holiday for celebration, contracting with the more solemn religious aspects.I had a devil of a time unwrapping the light strings, I was so close to throwing up my hands in despair. But I did get the fragile looking cords untangled and hung. They held up for the the month I had them hanging in my Mid Atlantic climate but no big storms, we had an abnormally dry December so no true test of their durability but they held up in some light rain showers. I wish there was a setting to have the lights static. The lights could be five start lights if I can get them up more easily next year and if they withstand a dreaded wintry mix or torrent of rain from a Nor'easter.The lights are themselves are very nice and I like the clear wires. However, I have some lighted spheres as part of my Christmas lights and with it getting dark before 5PM where I live, I like to be able to control all the lights with one device and have them come on for more than 6 hours. Using a timer unit to power the strings on and off results in these going back to the default setting where it runs through a sequence of flashing patterns. Previous LED strings I have used hold the setting in memory while the power is off (I prefer steady on). These are relatively expensive compared to strings that have a permanent memory, and I expected it to have that feature when it said it had memory. They look great, but the limitations on timing and memory control is enough that I would not buy these again.UPDATE: These use a common two pin connector that allows the controller to be changed with one from a compatible set. I was able to use one from some older light strings that allow me to set the lights to steady on while using a separate timer on the extension cord. Still, I would have preferred that the strings, as delivered, would allow use of an external timer without losing the preferred display setting. [E.g. If you want to have your lights on longer than 6 hours you would have to unplug and plug in again and fiddle with it to go through to find the preset function you want to keep your lights on.-There is also a light function that blinks and goes very erratic. I didn't think I'd mind the cycling of the light functions at first, but it got very annoying.-Cannot connect to a smart switch. You are limited to use the timer that is built into the lighting system. We could not get all our exterior lights, which included other sets to come on exactly at the same time.-The set we purchased had only one light drop length. It might have been my mistake to not have read the description accurately- I was hoping for multiple light lengths.Pros--The lights are bright and very pretty. Lots of comments when they're lit and not on the crazy setting.-You can string multiple light sets together-Held up fine through rain and wind. No issues.Just the right amount of light on my deck. Really made the space look festive. Easy to install although when unpackaging them initially, the icicles were tangled. I will be packing them away later with extra care so that doesn’t happen again. There is no remote control. Just a button on the string to set the types of function. It has to be reset every time you turn the lights on. I can live with that. They were inexpensive and pretty. All the lights work! My neighbours have commented how nice my deck looks. I’m pleased and will consider buying extra to decorate more spaces in my yard for next year.After spending almost 20 minutes untangling them, they were hung. All strands except 1 were lit. ?They were purchased on a lightning deal so it was a good deal despite this. However I am not sure my OCD will let it go as they are hung in the house where I will constantly see them.You can see the lights in the tree in the picture. They are bright and are multifunctional. The only issue is the packaging. When they came they were so tangled. It took me almost 3 hours to untangle them. It was so frustrating I almost sent them back and purchased some for a different manufacturer. After three hours of untangling, I am satisfied with the look. The manufacturer really needs to find a better way of shipping this product.I have to say the light itself is beautiful. However, when I received and opened the box. Some bottom drops covers fell off from the package. I spread out the string carefully and found out they fell off from the drops. I thought they are extra parts. Anyway, I contacted Amazon and they won't take care of the issue, and the customer service kept sending me around to different agent so I have to explain the issue again and again. They only can request me to return and re-buy, but the price of the item was going up and I also have to go through all return process. It seems that Amazon cannot stand behind their service like before. Two stars are for the light design, one star off for the quality and the other two stars off for Amazons' service.EDIT: Contacted the seller who is very responsive and solved the problem right way. Satisfied with their service. Change to four stars.I ordered a first set. Overall good, I didn't know about the timer so I was happy about this feature. Ordered a second set... Soooo tangled. Even if I tried being gentle I had 5 icicles falling. I'm up on the roof, half installed, not going to glue them back on. One had the wire ripped of. They also get all tangled when it gets windy. I do not recommend...
